The month May has started already and it is thus already the time for the comeback of the first Grand Tour of the year, with the Tour of Italy 2022, or Giro d'Italia as Italians say, which starts this Friday 6 of May: exceptionally on a Friday because of the start in Hungary, which leads to an additional transfer/rest day, right on Monday.
The Giro d'Italia 2022 will take place from Friday 6 May 2022 till Sunday 29 May 2022, over a total distance of 3445.6 km split out in 21 different stages. It'll be the 105th edition of this Italian Grand Tour. Let's now look in detail to the different stages of this Tour of Italy 2022 with the race routes on Open Street Maps/Google Earth.

Every year, the Dutch Team Jumbo-Visma needs to wear a special team shirt during the Tour de France. The usual team shirt, yellow with black accents, is indeed too similar to the Yellow jersey worn by the leader of the general classifications and during the French Grand Tour a solution thus needs to be found in the form of a specific team jersey.
The team could have simply develop a specific team shirt and wear that every year for the Tour, but instead of that, the team chose for a surprise and originality in every edition of the Grande Boucle. Let's no longer wait to have a look at how Primož Roglič, Wout van Aert, Jonas Vingegaard and their team mates will be recognisable on the Tour de France 2022 roads: thanks to The Masterpiece!
The queen of the classics, Paris-Roubaix 2022, will take place this Sunday 17 April. For the 119th edition of the race, the organisor decided to modify the race route just a little bit compared to last year, for the first cobble stones sections: the Vertain (# 26) section finds back its longer version, just like the Saulzoir (# 24) section. The number of sections remains the same however (30) and 54.8 kilometers of cobble stones will be awaiting the riders. The total distance of the race will be 257.2 kilometers.
In the Hell of the North a very small thing can come ruin the race for a rider or come at hand for another. Nothing's thus decided upfront, it'll be this Sunday on the cobbles that the whole story will be written!

The Dutch classic, the Amstel Gold Race, will take place between Maastricht and ... the Rijksweg in Vilt tomorrow. Indeed, since 2013, the finish is no longer on top of the Cauberg in Valkenburg but at the same location as where the races of the Championnats du Monde 2012 finished.
The race route of the Amstel Gold Race 2022 - which will be the 56th edition - contains 33 mounts, in this UCI WorldTour race (the number of mounts varies a bit, with a minimum of 31 in 2010 and 2012 and a maximum of 35 in 2017 and during the following years). In this article you'll find the time- and route schedule, the race route on Open Street Maps (similar to Google Maps) and you can also download the race route in Google Earth so you can for example do a virtual flyover of ...
Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix), already the winner in 2020 and 2nd last year, managed to win his second "Flanders Finest"! This was however far from sure when he was in the last kilometer towards the finish, in a duo with Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates). Indeed, at the last moment they were taken back by a chasing duo with whom they'd been in the breakaway before. In the end, it thus turns out to be possible to end 4th in a sprint à deux because Pogačar got stuck and thus ended 4th, behind Dylan van Baarle (INEOS Grenadiers) and Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ)!
The summary of the Tour of Flanders 2022
After the start in Antwerp at 10AM and the real start 9.3 kilometers further at 10.21AM, we saw several breakaway attempts but it was only around kilometer 15 that today's breakaway was formed by 9 riders, of 9 different teams: Stan Dewulf (AG2R Citroën Team), Sébastien Grignard (Lotto-Soudal), Lindsay de Vylder (Sport Vlaand ...> Read the whole story | 1 comment | shown 1699x

The first Belgian classics have already taken place and now we're early April, it's already time for Flanders' Finest (Vlaanderens Mooiste), one of the nicknames the Tour of Flanders (Ronde van Vlaanderen) carries. Organised for the first time in 1913 and only temporarily stopped for the First World War, this race of course is a real monument among the Belgian classics.
Now Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) is absent due to a Covid19 infection, his main competitors are probably very happy and started dreaming of a potential victory since chances are now higher for them!
One Belgian candidate for the race win less but - even though the last 4 years it was always a winner from another country- Belgium still is the country with the biggest number of wins, 69 out of 105. As usual since 2017, the 106th edition will take place tomorrow between Antwerpen and Oudenaarde, over a total distance of 272.5 kilometers. Let's now have a detailed look at the race route of the T ...
A breakaway of three riders created the main interest for the stage of the day in Paris-Nice 2022, but in the final circuit final, while there was still around 25 kilometers to go, their adventure came to an end.
Since the sprinters teams had been working for a big part of the day to come back on the leading trio, a sprint became unevitable and in the long straight line, slightly uphill, towards the finish line, Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) managed to make the difference and win this stage.
The summary of the third stage of Paris-Nice 2022: Vierzon > Dun-le-Palestel
At the end of the morning today the third stage of Paris-Nice 2022 started in Vierzon, for a stage without any real difficulties, of 191 kilometers towards Dun-le-Palestel.
The second stage of Paris-Nice 2022 ended in a sprint, but not without the wind taking its role to reduce the number of pretendants!
In the end it was Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team) who took the victory, while Christophe Laporte finished almost immediately behind him, thus maintaining his leader position in the general classification. The French rider of the Dutch Jumbo-Visma team will thus again wear his yellow jersey tomorrow!
The summary of the second stage of Paris-Nice 2022: Auffargis > Orléans
It was between Auffargis in the Yvelines and Orléans in the Loiret department that the second stage of Paris-Nice 2022 took place this afternoon.
A team time trial? No, that was not what was on the programme of the first Paris-Nice 2022 stage today. However, 3 riders of the Jumbo-Visma team arrived together in a breakaway on the finish line and the trio decided to leave the victory to Christophe Laporte!
The summary of the first stage of Paris-Nice 2022: Mantes-la-Ville > Mantes-la-Ville
The first stage of Paris-Nice 2022 started in Mantes-la-Ville early this afternoon for a loop in the Val d'Oise and in the Yvelines before a final short loop of 17.7 km around the finish city (total distance of the stage: 159.8 km). While the first stage of Paris-Nice often ends in a bunch sprint, it was going to be totally different today!
In the past week, Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.) has announced the selection of teams which will participate in the Tour de France 2022 which will start in Copenhagen in Denmark on Friday 1 July.
While the announcement was expected, it finally of course only really concerned 2 teams because that's the only margin which remains for the organisor to make his choice among the candidate teams for participation in the Tour de France. And A.S.O. decided to choose two French teams for those final wildcards!
