The ultima tappa of the Giro d'Italia 2013 for Mark Cavendish, Vincenzo Nibali in pink

The ultima tappa of the Giro d'Italia 2013 for Mark Cavendish, Vincenzo Nibali in pinkToday was the 21st stage, the ultimo tappa thus of this Giro d'Italia 2013. A Giro with much less animation than some of those we've seen a few years ago but a Giro which was mostly impacted by the weather.

The last stage was, as often in a Grand Tour, without much interest, except of course to know the name of the winner of the last bunch sprint in the streets of Brescia and it was, not really surprisingly, the man whose nickname (well, at least in Italy) is the fastest man in the world, Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-QuickStep).

The summary of the 21st stage of the Tour of Italy 2013: Riese Pio X > Brescia

Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) came to the start completely dressed in pink this morning and his team mates of the Astana team all had pink handlebar tape. The riders went off in a real slow tempo for the last 197 kilometers of this ...

Vincenzo Nibali again first, in the snow on top of the 20th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2013A modified stage which, thanks to its non modified final part with a mountain top finish gave a beautiful finish today in the Giro d'Italia 2013. In this very last climb the whole stage got turned around and Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) again showed why he's the one to go home in pink from Brescia after the final finish of this race tomorrow.

The summary of the 20th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2013: Silandro > Tre Cime di Lavaredo

With the abandon of Robert Gesink (Blanco Pro Cycling Team) during the improvised rest day yesterday (following the cancellation of the 19th stage) and the suspension of Danilo di Luca (Vini Fantini-Selle Italia) following a positive test for EPO a few days before the start of the Giro, 169 riders came to the start of this forelast stage of the Tour of Italy 2013 in Silandro.

Giro d'Italia 2013: Giovanni Visconti surprises the sprinters in an annoying 17th stage - summaryThe 17th stage took place on a completely flat race route, with a short but steep climb in the last 30 kilometers. It's difficult to say anything else about this stage than that it was annoying, until Giovanni Visconti accellerated just at the right moment in this climb, which allowed him to win this stage in a solo win. Solo win which surprises the sprinters who must be disappointed to not have been able to battle for victory in this stage ...

Giro d'Italia 2013: Be&ntildeat Intxausti wins a nervous 16th stage - summaryA succession of attacks and counter attacks animated the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2013 today. The stage started in France, in Valloire, and finished back in Italy, in Ivrea. In the end, Beñat Intxausti managed to cross the line just ahead of his final breakaway companions without this victory leading to any changes in the top 3 of the general classification.

The summary of the 16th stage of the Tour of Italy 2013: Valloire (FR) > Ivrea

On the day that Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) celebrated his 28th birthday, the stage victory in the Giro d'Italia 2013, at the finish in Ivrea, didn't go to the British rider. Giovanni Visconti (Movistar) ended solo, in a completely white landscape with snow flakes falling on him, and maybe he ended solo and won this stage because the finish line was moved down the mountain a bit. No changes in the general classification since Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) ended the stage in the same group as his main competitors.

Mauro Santambrogio takes the victory in the modified 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2013 - summaryThe 14th stage of this Giro d'Italia 2013 should have contained the climb of Sestrière today, followed by the final climb of Jafferau. As announced earlier today, the route however got modified with the cancellation of the climb to Sestrière because of the snow falling there today.

The summary of the 14th stage of the Tour of Italy 2013 - Cervere > Bardonecchia

The race route thus got 12 kilometers longer but a bit less difficult as well. 4 riders didn't start this afternoon in Cervere: Daniele Bennati and Karsten Kroon for Team Saxo-Tinkoff, Gert Steegmans (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) and Jack Bobridge (Blanco Pro Cycling Team), while the 183 other riders had to start under -not surprisingly in this Giro- the rain. The new race route of the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2013: Cervere > BardonecchiaThe 14th stage of the Tour of Italy 2013 between Cervere and Bardonecchia should have included the Sestrière climb today before continuing on the final climb of Jafferau in Bardonecchia.
