A 5 rider strong breakaway was active in the Grand Prix Cycliste La Marseillaise 2015 today, the first road cycling race of the season in France and also the first race of the Coupe de France PMU 2015. After having created quite a comfortable gap, these 5 riders started losing lots of time in the 3 difficulties of the race around Marseille and in the climb of the Gineste their adventure came to an end. A new breakaway didn't manage to work together correctly and the race was thus decided in a sprint, which was won by Pim Ligthart (Lotto-Soudal).

Like every year, the Grand Prix Cycliste La Marseillaise ended in a sprint in front of the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille today. We saw a very animated race which ended with the last breakaway rider, Mikaël Chérel (AG2R La Mondiale), being taken back in the last kilometer and Kenneth Vanbilsen (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise) was the vainqueur winner in the sprint!

This year that'll be together with the Gran Premio Costa degli Etruschi since the Italian race has returned to its usual place in the calendar (last year it took place in September).

This afternoon the opening race of the European and French cycling season 2013, the Grand Prix Cycliste La Marseillaise, took place in the region around Marseille.
The first part of the race was marked by a breakaway with Thomas Vaubourzeix and Jelle Wallays and at the end of the race a solo breakaway by Sander Armée almost managed to go on to victory. Taken back at the last minute, the Belgian rider saw the race victory being decided in a bunch sprint, won by Justin Jules at only a few centimeters from Samuel Dumoulin, the winner of this race in 2012.
