After the rest day following the transfer from Denmark to Italy, the team time trial in Verona was on the programme of the Giro d'Italia 2012 today.

The timed effort was won by Garmin-Barracuda, thus handing to Ramunas Navardauskas the pink jersey of the leader of the general classification!

A new chaotic sprint gave Matthew Goss as the winner of this 3rd stage!

The second stage of the Tour of Italy 2012 was predicted to end in a sprint and that's what happened today ... A leading trio took off very early in the stage but once they were taken back at 40 kilometers from the finish, a bunch sprint became inevitable. The World Champion, Mark Cavendish, won this stage in this sprint.

This afternoon, an individual time trial of 8.7 kilometers in the streets of Herning in Denmark announced the start of the Giro d'Italia 2012. Taylor Phinney, who made this time trial his ultimate goal of the year, won it with quite a gap with an average speed of 50 km/h.

After a 2011 edition which has been largely criticised, both before and during the race, and even more after the unfortunate death of Wouter Weylandt, this Tour of Italy 2012 again has a more human race route, inspired by the new director of the race, Michele Acquarone.
