After the rest day following the transfer from Denmark to Italy, the team time trial in Verona was on the programme of the Giro d'Italia 2012 today.
The timed effort was won by Garmin-Barracuda, thus handing to Ramunas Navardauskas the pink jersey of the leader of the general classification!

A leading trio took off very early in the stage but once they were taken back at 40 kilometers from the finish, a bunch sprint became inevitable. The World Champion, Mark Cavendish, won this stage in this sprint.

This afternoon, an individual time trial of 8.7 kilometers in the streets of Herning in Denmark announced the start of the Giro d'Italia 2012. Taylor Phinney, who made this time trial his ultimate goal of the year, won it with quite a gap with an average speed of 50 km/h.
