The day after tomorrow, the Rhône-Alpes region will see the start of the 22nd Rhône Alpes Isère Tour which will as usual take place in 4 stages around the city of Lyon.

Let's discover all details of the race in this article, with the race routes on Google Maps/Google Earth and the list of teams which will start in this race.

The Rhône Alpes Isère Tour 2012 race route on Google Maps

4 stages in line over a total distance of 643.2 kilometers will be on the programme of the Rhône Alpes Isère Tour 2012 from Thursday 10 till Sunday 13 May.

1/ Thursday 10 May 2012 - Domarin > Ruy-Montceau - 141.2 km

La Porte des Alpes

The first stage of the Rhône Alpes Isère Tour 2012 will start in front of the town hall of Domarin, while the real start will be at the exit of St. Alban de Roche at 4 kilometers from there.

Once they started, the riders will go down south until Commelle, via Roche, Saint-Agnin-sur-Bion and Châtonnay, before they turn east and than back north to the intermediate sprint in Bizonnes, after 51.4 kilometers.
While going back north they continue with another sprint in Saint Victor de Cessieu and the sprint Prime Pollard in Saint-Jean-de-Soudain where they'll also climb the first difficulty of this stage, the Côte de Saint-Jean-de-Soudain, of the 3rd category.

Once they get to Vézeronce-Curtin, the riders will turn back south-west with the climb of the Côte de Vignieu (3rd category). This will be the hardest climb of this stage with its 2.2 kilometers @ 7.7%.
In Montcarra the peloton gets on the circuit with the Côte de Demptézieu (3rd category) which will thus be climbed twice. After the first crossing of the finish line where the riders will battle for the last intermediate sprint, the way back to Montcarra will go via the Côte de Montceau (3rd category) and after a new visit of Bourgoin-Jallieu the next crossing of the finish line in Ruy-Montceau (in the Rue de Lavitel just after a double turn) will be the right one to know the first winner and thus the first rider to wear the yellow jersey of this RAIT!

2/ Friday 11 May 2012 - Vaulx-Milieu > Montanay - 181.8 km

Incursion en Franc-Lyonnais

The second stage, on the programme this Friday, will start from the parking of the TIME company, known for its bike frames and other products, in Vaulx-Milieu, with the real start at the exit of La Verpillière at 6.7 kilometers from there.

Going up north the riders will very quickly, after about 26 kilometers, find the first intermediate sprint in Port Galland. Going north-west in Meximieux they'll find another intermediate sprint in Villars-les-Dombes and a third one in Belleville-sur-Saône.

When the peloton gets to the most northern point of this stage, the riders will not be far from the Prime Bijouterie Pollard and Cru Régnié-Durette which allows its winner in Régnié-Durette to win a Tissot watch and 36 bottles to make his team mates happy!

After the Col de Brouilly, the feeding zone will be close to Vaux-en-Beaujolais and this climb is followed by the Col du Parasoir (1st category) of 8.4 km @ 4.5% and than the Col de Saint-Bonnet (2nd category) and the Côte de Pommiers (3rd category).

The riders will than go towards the finish line which will be drawn on top of the Côte de Montanay (3rd category).

3/ Saturday 12 May 2012 - Saint-Maurice l'Exil > Saint-Maurice l'Exil - 166.2 km

This weekend starts with a stage which will be marked by a first category climb, the Col de l'Oeillon (19.7 km @ 5.5%) of which the top will be reached after 121.8 km in the race.

This stage will start (at the parking of the nautic center Aqualone) and finish (Rue de la Commune) in Saint-Maurice l'Exil and 3 intermediate sprints are on the programme of this stage: in Lapeyrouse-Mournay, in Anneyron and in Saint-Laurice l'Exil at the first crossing of the finish line.
In addition to the Col de l'Oeillon, on top of which the Prime Bijouterie Pollard will also be awarded, the riders will also have to climb the Côte de Moras en Valloire (3rd category), the Côte de St Uze (3rd category) and the Côte de Malleval (also 3rd category).

4/ Sunday 13 May 2012 - Charvieu-Chavagneux > Charvieu-Chavagneux - 154.4 km

Autour de l'Isle Crémieu

The last stage of the Rhône Alpes Isère Tour 2012 will also have the same start and finish city, Charvieu-Chavagneux. What could the organisation have done better for the local team Charvieu-Chavagneux Isère Cyclisme of which the riders will most probably want to get some good results in this stage.
Before one of them could however put his hands in the air, the men in pink, with the rest of the peloton, will have to do 154.4 kilometers, including the Col de Portes (1st categorie, 11.8 km @ 6,.%), but also the Côte de Lhuis (2nd category), the Côte de Parmilieu (3rd category) and the Côte de Torjonas (3rd category).

The stage will be completed with 3 intermediate sprints: in Trept, in Les Granges de Montagnieu and at the first crossing in front of the Lac de Fremenville in the first of 3 laps on the circuit.

The teams at the start of the Rhône Alpes Isère Tour 2012

We'll find 4 French Continental Pro teams, 9 foreign Continental teams and 8 Elite amateur teams at the start of this 22nd edition of the Rhône Alpes Isère Tour. Indeed, as a class 2.2 race of the UCI Europe Tour on the UCI cycling calendar, the Rhône Alpes Isère Tour is able to have Continental Pro teams from its country, the Continental teams (from its country and from abroad), national teams and regional teams and clubs participate. And the RAIT tries to make most of it by inviting several amateur teams in addition to the professional teams.
