In the Tour with Stéphane Goubert: Peter Sagan in Seraing?

In the Tour with Stéphane Goubert: Peter Sagan in Seraing? In the Tour with Stéphane Goubert first looks back at the 6.4 kilometer long time trial in the streets of Liège, which was won today - like in 2004 - by Fabian Cancellara (Radioshack-Nissan) and than looks forward to the first stage between Liège and Seraing over 198 kilometers tomorrow (see here for the race route of this first stage of the Tour de France 2012).

Concerning the prologue in the streets of Liège, Fabian Cancellara repeated his success story of 2004 on a race route which was almost completely the same as in 2004 and Stéphane Goubert therefore explains that the 300 extra meters were not enough for the competitors of the Swiss rider to win it from him, even though we saw a good time trial by Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky) and most of all a great time trial by Sylvain Chavanel (Omega Pharma-QuickStep).

Tomorrow's stage is 198 kilometers long between Liège and Seraing and contains in addition to the 4 climbs of the 4th category also a finish uphill (4th category as well). With such a profile at the finish, Stéphane Goubert thinks that the victory will be decided between the rider who's doing a home race, Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing Team), who would love to take a victory in front of his own public in the Tour de France 2012, and Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale), the "star" since the start of this season who seems to be made for such a stage finish as he recently showed in the Tour of California and the Tour of Switzerland.

As a joker, Stéphane mentions the riders of Team Sky with Mark Cavendish in a sprint, but more probably Edvald Boasson Hagen about whom we get to know at the same time what's his first name and what's his last name.

  1. Mon top 10:
    1-Gilbert
    2-Sagan
    3-Sy. Chavanel
    4-Bohasen Hagen
    Salutations
