Tour de France 2009 to start in Monaco?UPDATE 22 November 2007: the start from Monaco has now been confirmed; click here to read more about the start of the Tour de France 2009 from Monaco !

In 2009 the Tour de France would start in Monaco ...
That's at least what we can read in the daily newspaper Le Parisien .

After the start of the upcoming edition on July 7th, 2007 in London, the start of the Tour de France 2008 in Brittany (Brest) this would be the first start ever of the Tour in Monaco.

According to Le Parisien Monaco's start would be a 15,2 km time trial.

In addition to Monaco several other cities were Tour start candidate for 2009, including Rotterdam, Utrecht, Liege, Lugano, Budapest, Florence and the Basque Country. As far as I know, at least the city of Utrecht has planned to come and have a look in this year's Tour de France to see how a Tour stage is organised. Maybe they'll try again in 2010 ...

ASO (the organiser of the Tour de France) didn't want to confirm nor deny the news, but we shouldn't forget Le Parisien is a newspaper edited by Editions Philippe Amaury, while ASO (short for Amaury Sport Organisation) is also part of that company ...

  1. Salut Thomas,
