Who is Taylor Phinney
Maybe you don't know Taylor Phinney yet? He's a 20-year old American rider, born in Boulder (Colorado) on 27 June 1990, who was part of the U23 team of Team Radioshack in 2010, Trek-Livestrong. On 1 August he became a stagiair with Team Radioshack.Phinney showed some very interesting results, both on the road and on the track. He won for example the individual pursuit during the Track World Championships in 2009 and in 2010, but also already showed to be a good time trialist on the road by winning the American Championships elite.
On the road Taylor Phinney also is a promissing Classics rider since he won Paris-Roubaix Espoirs in 2009 and in 2010. The 2011 edition of Paris-Roubaix Espoirs was recently threatened by financial problems but fortunately ASO came to help for the espoirs version of the pro cycling race which is organised by the company from Issy-les-Moulineaux.
The American who became the first American rider to win this race in 2009 of course showed he was happy with this saving action by ASO because, even though if this race disappears his name would be in the books as the last rider to have won it, he didn't want to become history this way.
In 2010 the American rider also won the 4th stage of the Tour of the Gila, the prologue and stages 1, 2 and 5b of the Olympia's Tour where he also took the final victory, the prologue and 3rd stage of the Tour of Utah and the prologue of the Tour de l'Avenir.
Taylor Phinney was almost made to be a professional cyclist because he's the son of Davis Phinney, former cyclist, and of Connie Carpenter who also had a career as a cyclist and ice skater.
In 2011 Phinney joins BMC Racing Team and he'll thus concentrate more on road races than on the track. The American rider didn't join the currently ongoing training camp of his new team. Last Tuesday he said about his absence: Wish I was in Spain with my @BMCProTeam guys! Sad to miss out on the first camp but I'll see you guys in January!! completing this with a The camp is optional for US riders... I need to be stateside this month! #justanFYI
