After the time-trial races at the Kigali / Rwanda 2025 Road World Championships, it's time for the road races, which will hand out yet more rainbow jerseys at these World Championships, held for the first time on the African continent.

In this publication, you'll discover all the details of these road races, and in particular those in the elite women's and men's categories, which will determine the successors to Lotte Kopecky (Belgium) and Tadej Pogačar (Slovenia).

Kigali 2025 Road World Championships road race program

On Thursday, the World Championships in Kigali switched to race in line mode, with a single main circuit for all races, run a variable number of times depending on the race, and completed by an extended circuit for the elite men's race.Here is the race program for the races in line:

  • 08:00 - 11:15: junior men - 8 laps of the circuit - 119.3 km

• saturday september 27, 2025
  • 08:20 - 10:40: junior women - 5 laps of the circuit - 74 km
  • 12:05 - 16:45: elite women - 11 laps of the circuit - 164.6 km
• sunday, september 28, 2025
  • 09:45 - 16:45: elite men - 9 laps of the circuit, 1 lap of the extended circuit and 6 other laps of the circuit - 267.5 km

The Kigali 2025 Road World Championships elite women's road race course and list of starters

The course for the elite women's road race at the Kigali 2025 Road World Championships - 164.6 km

For the elite women's race, as for all the other road races with the exception of the elite men's race, only the local circuit will be used, in this case 11 times. With a circuit of 15.1 km and 1.5 km of neutralized running on the first lap, this gives a total distance of 164.6 km. The start and finish will take place at the Convention Centre in Kigali, and the circuit is followed in an anti-clockwise direction, i.e. first eastwards, then northwards, before returning to the starting point with a short round trip to the west.

After skirting the Golf de Kigali, the course offers the Côte de Kigali Golf climb (800 m at 8.1%, with a maximum of 14% at the start of the side) and then pushes on to the end of KN 5 Road, to pick up the Côte de Kimihurura climb on the way back (1.3 km at 6.3%, with a maximum of 11% at the start of the climb, all cobbles), which has already been seen on time trial courses. At the top, there's just one kilometer to go before the finish line on the last lap. With these two hills climbed 11 times, the race has a positive vertical drop of 3,350 metres.

The course for the elite men's road race at the Kigali 2025 Road World Championships

For the men, the main circuit will be the same as for the women and all other road races. However, after completing it 9 times, on the 10th lap they continue on the NR4 from where the main circuit heads up the cobbled hill, climbing the Côte de Péage (2 km at 6%, with a maximum of 10% at the end of the climb) and then the NR1. From the westernmost point of this extended circuit, the riders join the KN 2 Avenue and access the Mount Kigali climb (5.9 km at 6.9%, with a maximum of 20% at the end of the climb). They then head north up KN 20 Avenue, and to pass the DR51, they make a 400-meter ascent on cobblestones, the Mur de Kigali (400 m at 11% and a maximum of 15%). The race isn't over yet, however, as the riders will then ride the main local circuit again, this time 6 times.
