This weekend the Road World Championships Cycling will start in Ponferrada in Spain. After the Team Time Trials (for brand teams) this weekend, the championships will continue with the individual time trials before the road races, which will take place for all different categories on the same circuit.

The whole week, the area around Ponferrada, in the north-west of Spain, will receive the Road World Championships Cycling 2014, following the programme described here:

The team time trials
As usual now since a few years (2012 to be precise), these Road World Championships Cycling 2014 in Ponferrada will start with team time trials.
The starts and finishes for all time trial races of these World Championships are identical, respectively in the Avenida Libertad and the Avenida de Asturias in Ponferrada.
The circuit for the men teams is longer than the women's since they'll do a total of 57.10 kilometers while the Women teams will finish in 36.15 kilomètres. Hereunder you'll find the race routes for the two team time trials on Google Maps, the time- and route schedules and the profiles of these races.
From Monday till Wednesday the switch is made to the individual effort with the individual time trials for the participants in the different categories of these Road World Championships Cycling 2014.
From Friday, the road races will take place, until Sunday. They'll all take place on the same circuit around Ponferrada (without an initial part in line as often is the case), in which we find two climbs, a big one of 5.2 kilometers - Confederación - with an average steepness of 3.3% (going up to 8.7%) and the Mirador climb over 1.14 kilometers with an average steepness of 5.5% going up to 10.7%!
These climbs will be part of each lap on the circuit and will thus be climbed up to 14 times by the Men elite!
