A few days ago I already presented the 2010 Tour du Limousin route on Google Maps. Today, I present you exclusively, before the press conference this morning, the list of participating riders for this 43rd edition of the Tour du Limousin which will take place from 17 till 20 August.
A few surprises
The past few days, the organisor of the Tour du Limousin had some last minute surprises with especially the participation of a 18th team, Landbouwkrediet (Belgium) which has done a lot of forcing to be able to participate in the 4-day stage race. But there was also some bad news with the Fabian Cancellara (Team Saxo Bank) not participating, according to his team for personal reasons, while he he was seen as the potential winner of the individual time trial in Saint-Amand-Montrond. But also with Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky) not participating because he'll finally start in the Eneco Tour ...
This didn't however really bother Tour du Limousin Organisation and that's not really surprising when you have a look at the list of participants which includes names like Fränk Schleck (Team Saxo Bank) who makes his comeback after his crash in the Tour de France 2010, Luis Léon Sanchez (Caisse d'Epargne), Oscar Pereiro (Astana) who didn't participate in the Tour, the former Irish champion irlandais Nicolas Roche who finished 15th in the Tour de France 2010 and Christophe Riblon (AG2R La Mondiale), the yellow jersey for a few days in the Tour de France 2010, Sylvain Chavanel (Quick Step), Pierrick Fédrigo, winner of the Bagnères-de-Luchon > Pau stage and twice winner of the Tour du Limousinand Anthony Charteau (Bbox Bouygues Telecom) who finished the Tour de France 2010 leading the king of the mountain classification and Sandy Casar (FDJ).
Among the riders who will start in the 43rd edition of the Tour du Limousin we find 4 stage winners of the last Tour de France: Sandy Casar for FDJ, Sylvain Chavanel for the Belgian Quick Step team, Pierrick Fédrigo for Bbox Bouygues Telecom and finally Christophe Riblon for AG2R La Mondiale.
We also find a nice collection of national champions:
- Luis Léon Sanchez (Caisse d'Epargne) for Spain (time trial)
- Jussi Veikkanen (FDJ) for Finland
- Nicolas Vogondy (Bbox Bouygues Telecom) for France (time trial; the national road champion, Thomas Voeckler, will not start in the 43rd Tour du Limousin)
- Fränk Schleck (Team Saxo Bank) for Luxembourg
- Gustav Larsson (Team Saxo Bank) for Sweden (time trial)
