The Tour of Spain 2025, or from its official name the Vuelta a España 2025, starts in Italy tomorrow, Saturday August 23, 2025, so it was high time to bring you the OpenStreetMap maps of this 3rd Grand Tour of the year.

Last year, the Vuelta a España had already had a foreign start with 3 stages, but that was in neighbouring Portugal ... whereas this time it's 3 stages on Italian soil followed by a stage between Italy and France that launch the Tour of Spain, a long way from the 5th stage which will take place in Spain. And stages 6 and 7 will see a little excursion to Andorra! As the route book was only made available on Wednesday, for the moment only the first 4 now 6 9 stages are available, and downloading in Google Earth is not available for now (the file will be made available when all the stages have been drawn).

Preview of maps available in the velowire mobile application!

As was the case with the Tour de France 2025, and will be the case systematically from now on, the OpenStreetMap maps will be available as a preview in the velowire mobile app - where you'll also benefit from the map's exclusive geolocation feature (and automatic movement of the map as you move)!

At the time of publication only 4 stages were available in this article, whereas in the app the first 9 were already available! (and the app continued to be ahead all the time)

📲For the moment the velowire app is still in testing (but it may soon be officially launched), but it's already available for any Android or iOS smartphone or tablet in a fully functional version.

List of starters Tour of Spain 2025

The Tour of Spain 2025 will be the 80th edition of this Grand Tour, which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year!

Before looking at the route of this Vuelta a España 2025, let's take a quick look at the riders who will be lining up at the start of the race. The big favourites will be Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike), who won't be facing Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates XRG) here, but João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates XRG), Jai Hindley (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe), Ben O'Connor (Team Jayco AlUla) and Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers).

The only difficulty of the day is at around the halfway point, at Issiglio (Morris) (2nd category), the intermediate sprint of this stage will be at Cuorgnè and the finish at Ceres.

4/ Tuesday, August 26, 2025 - Susa 🇮🇹 > Voiron 🇫🇷 - 206.7 km

A mid-mountain stage takes the race from Italy, starting in Susa, west of Turin, to France. Soon after the start, the riders climb a 3rd category difficulty, Puerto Exilles (5.6 km at 5.6%), before heading for the border with France, this time up the Col de Montgenèvre (2nd category, 8.3 km at 6.1%). Once in France and after the descent of the latter, another difficulty lies in their path, the Col du Lautaret (2nd category, 13.8 km at 4.3%). At the top of this one, however, there are still 130 kilometers left in this longest stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España, and these will be much simpler than the previous ones.

For those riders who haven't been too badly stalled by these initial difficulties, there will still be plenty of time to catch up for a more or less packed sprint at the end of the stage in Voiron.

For the 6th stage on Thursday, the race will once again leave the north of Spain for a short excursion to Andorra 🇦🇩 (for the finish of this stage and the start of the next). This will be the first real mountain stage, starting in Olot, and will be one of the few where riders will warm up before the start, as it's uphill from the start. It's an 11.4 km, 4.1%, 3rd category climb up the Collada de Sentigosa. Soon after this, and after passing through Ripoll, they continue on to a more challenging climb, the 1st category Collada de Toses (24.3 km at 3.5%). They will then reach Andorra 🇦🇩 on a downhill road before battling out the sprint in Andorra la Vella and a series of two further difficulties, the Alto de la Comella (2nd category, 4.2 km at 8%) and then, after crossing La Massana, the final climb to Pal (1st category, 9.6 km at 6.3%).

Leaving Andorra la Vella and Andorra 🇦🇩 again, another mountain stage (with 4,211 m of ascent) awaits the riders.

After a descent out of Andorra and up to La Seu d'Urgell, the biggest difficulty comes early in the stage with the Port del Canto (1st category, 24.7 km at 4.4% and going up to 13%), the summit of which will be reached after less than 38 kilometers. The riders then head for the southernmost point of the stage, before climbing northwards towards the finish. Once they've arrived in the finishing town, the riders won't be finished just yet, as there's still a 23.4-kilometer circuit around the city.

9/ Sunday, August 31, 2025 - Alfaro > Estacíon de Esquí de Valdezcaray - 195.5 km

The second stage of this second weekend of the Vuelta a España 2025 is officially described as "hilly", but it's the uphill finish that will mark this stage, as apart from that there are few climbs on the stage from Alfaro's start onwards.
The stage will first seek out the borders of La Rioja, before heading north through Arnedo and on to Logroño, which it bypasses to the south, before heading west for the sprint at Santo Domingo de la Calzada.

From there, the stage heads south to Ezcaray, where the final climb begins, to the Estacíon de Esquí de Valdezcaray, a 13.2km 1st category climb at 5% and going up to 12%.

R1/ Monday, September 1, 2025 - Rest in Pamplona

On this first day of September, the riders of the Vuelta a España 2025 can rest in Pamplona, after 9 stages of this 80th Tour of Spain.

10/ Tuesday, September 2, 2025 - Parque de la Naturaleza Sendaviva > El Ferial Larra Belagua - 175.3 km

Stage 10, the day after the first rest day, will start in the heart of the Parque de la Naturaleza Sendaviva. This will be a flat stage, which gradually intensifies, with the finish at altitude. Indeed, throughout, the profile shows an uphill trend, with however only one 3rd category difficulty referenced which starts after 120 kilometers in the stage, the Alto de las Coronas (8.3 km at 4.4%).

Before reaching the final climb, the riders will compete in the intermediate sprint of Isaba, and then begin the 1st category climb to El Ferial (Larra Belagua) (9.4 km at 6.3% with a maximum of 10%).

11/ Wednesday, September 3, 2025 - Bilbao > Bilbao - 157.4 km

Stage 11 of the Tour of Spain 2025 will take place in a loop around Bilbao in the Basque Country. After leaving Bilbao to the west, the race heads northeast, taking in the Alto de Laukiz (3rd category, 3.9 km at 4.7%), the town of Mungia and then on to the Alto de Sollube (3rd category, 7.2 km at 4.2%) and the coastal town of Bermeo. Then northeast via Gernika-Lumo and the climb to Balcón de Bizkaia (3rd category, 4.3 km at 5.4%).

The return journey to Bilbao then begins, heading west and bypassing Amorebieta-Etxano to the north. Another series of loops then awaits the riders, and here it's important to follow the logic on the map: first the circuit indicated by the black arrows, starting with the climb to Alto del Vivero, the only 2nd-category difficulty (4.2 km at 8.3%), which will be found a little further on at the second passage. At the top of the latter, the riders turn left to head for the finish line in Bilbao, which they cross for the first time, before contesting the intermediate sprint at Bilbao / Alameda de Rekalde. They then continue eastwards through Etxebarri, turning left to climb the Alto del Vivero once again. At the summit, they turn right this time for a slightly longer loop which passes north of the previous one, through Lezama, Zamudio, Derio and Sondika before rejoining the previous loop via a short but steep climb, the Alto de Pike (3rd category, 2.3 km at 8.9%). They then return to Bilbao for the final finish, and the summit of the last climb is thus 7.8 km from the finish line.

12/ Thursday, September 4, 2025 - Laredo > Los Corrales de Buelna - 144.9 km

Like its predecessor, the twelfth stage of the Tour of Spain will be a relatively short, medium-mountain stage, starting in Laredo, west of Bilbao, and offering two difficulties, one at the beginning and one at the end. At Ramales de la Victoria, the race leaves the main roads used since the start of the stage, to begin the ascent of Puerto de Alisas (2nd category, 8.6 km at 5.8%) a little bit further on, some 30 km into the stage. This is followed by a relatively flat section, with only two small, unreferenced climbs, before arriving at the intermediate sprint at Barros and - after crossing the finish line for the first time in the opposite direction to the finish - they will go for the 1st category difficulty, the Collada de Brenes (7 km at 7.9% with a maximum of 16%), before returning to the finish at Los Corrales de Buelna.

13/ Friday, September 5, 2025 - Cabezón de la Sal > L'Angliru - 202.7 km

On the eve of the second weekend of the 2025 Tour of Spain, a mountain stage starts from Cabezón de la Sal. The first half of the stage is flat, mainly by the sea (as far as Ribadesella), and although the road then rises a little, it's only after 147 kilometers that the riders begin the first real difficulty of the day.

Two first-category climbs follow, before the final outside category climb: the Alto La Mozqueta (6.3 km at 8.4% with a maximum of 12%) then, immediately after the intermediate sprint at La Vega, the Alto del Cordal (5.5 km at 8.8% with a maximum of 14%) and finally the final climb to the famous L'Angliru (12.4 km at 9.7% with a maximum of 23%).

14/ Saturday, September 6, 2025 - Avilés > La Farrapona (Lagos de Somiedo) - 135.9 km

On the first day of the third weekend of the 2025 Vuelta a España, a short mountain stage from Avilés is on the programme. Despite this, the first half of the stage shows no signs of difficulty, even though the route goes inland from the start near the sea.

The first difficulty is only 3rd category, L'Alto Tenebreo (5.8 km at 6.5%), but after the descent and a gradual climb, a double ascent awaits the riders, with first the Puerto de San Llaurienzu (1st category, 10.1 km at 8.5% with a maximum of 14%) and then the final climb to the Lagos de Somiedo at La Farrapona (1st category, 16.9 km at 5.9% with a maximum of 13%).

15/ Sunday, September 7, 2025 - A Veiga / Vegadeo > Monforte de Lemos - 167.8 km

Almost 168 kilometers await the riders at the start in A Veiga / Vegadeo, on a medium-mountain stage. Sprinters and other less mountain-loving riders will have to hang in there at the start of the stage, because after the 1st category Puerto a Garganta climb (16.5 km at 5.1% with a maximum of 10%), the rest of the stage will be less difficult.

Throughout the stage, the course will remain hilly, but officially only the Alto de Barbeitos (2nd category, 11.9 km at 3.9%) remains very soon after the first difficulty, and the rest of the stage will then be without referenced difficulties and even largely downhill, even if the profile of the race shows after the intermediate sprint at Sarria still a small bump. Towards the finish line at Monforte de Lemos, it's downhill again that the teams can organize themselves to fight for victory on this stage, which closes the second week of the Tour of Spain 2025.
