This Sunday marks the only Dutch classic, the Amstel Gold Race. This will be the 60th edition since the first race took place in 1966, and the last for Leo van Vliet, who has been the race director for 30 years!
The race will take place between the Markt in Maastricht and the Rijksweg in Vilt. Since 2013, the finish line has no longer been at the top of the Cauberg in Valkenburg but at the same location where the 2012 World Championships races finished. However, the Cauberg does feature three times in the race!
The route for the 2026 Amstel Gold Race is quite similar to last year’s. However, it features one fewer climb — 33 in total — on this UCI WorldTour-classified race, as the second climb, Adsteeg, has been omitted by taking a slightly more easterly route between Geleen and Hulsberg (there has been some variation in the number of climbs, with a minimum of 31 in 2010 and 2012 and a maximum of 35 in 2017 and the following years; 33 in recent years, and thus 34 in 2025). Aside from that, changes to the route are minimal.
In this article, you will find the schedule and the route of the 2026 Amstel Gold Race on an OpenStreetMap map (similar to Google Maps), and you can also download the route into Google Earth to, for example, take a virtual tour. You’ll also find the race profile and schedule, as well as the list of starters for the 2026 Amstel Gold Race.

Description of the 2026 Amstel Gold Race route
After the start at the Market (Markt) just outside the center of Maastricht, the riders will first head north to Geulle and continue on to Elsloo, where they’ll climb the Maasberg (1) and then on to Urmond, before finally turning—this time passing through Geleen and heading toward Schimmert, Hulsberg, and Klimmen — a section of the route that has been slightly modified compared to last year. They then head through Voerendaal toward the climb up the Bergseweg (2) and continue on to tackle other hills. These are, in succession, the Korenweg (3), Nijswillerweg (4), and then a climb on the national highway, Rijksweg N278 (5). It is then at Cadier en Keer that they turn south again. They then descend first to the border with Belgium and pass through the Wolfsberg (6) and the Loorberg (7) before making a short detour north toward the town of Gulpen and passing through the Gulperberg, but the climb continues toward the Schweibergerweg (8) before turning left and following the border again with the climb up Camerig (9), a short detour toward Vijlen before heading through Vaals toward the Vaalserberg/Drielandenpunt (10) (a small peak where the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium meet).
Next comes the climb up Gemmenich (11) just across the Belgian border and Epenerbaan/Vijlenerbos (12) after returning to the Netherlands. This section of the course is therefore the blue section on the map.
Riders then enter the red section (the red of the race’s partner brand 🍻) of the course and climb the Eperheide (13); then, heading north on the same route as on the way out, they change course to climb the Gulperberg (Bergweg) (14), then continuing northward up the Plettenberg (15), Eyserweg (16), Schanternelsweg (17), Vrakelberg (18), and a little further on, past Schin op Geul, the sequence of Sibbergrubbe (19) and Cauberg (20), before crossing the finish line for the first time.
The loop that follows around the finish line includes the climb up the Geulhemmerberg (21). After passing through Maastricht and returning to Cadier en Keer, they then climb the Keerderberg (22) before turning left toward Bemelen, where they turn right to head toward the climb up the Bemelerberg (23). After a descent southward and past the Loorberg (24), they climb back up toward Gulpen and finish the red section of the course.
They then begin the gold section (the third color of the partner brand, as blue is actually part of it as well) and climb the Gulperberg (25) but in its full version rather than via the Bergweg, after which they continue through Partij and head north via Wahlwiller and further on to tackle the Kruisberg (26), then the Eyserbosweg (27) and the Fromberg (28). The peloton then turns left at Schin op Geul to reach the Keutenberg (29) before climbing toward the second ascent of the Cauberg (30), which will this time be followed by a final loop resembling the 2012 World Championships circuit, featuring the climb up the Geulhemmerberg (31) in addition to the Bemelerberg (32). And finally, one last climb up the Cauberg (33)! From there, it’s 1.8 km to the finish in Berg en Terblijt.
The start will be given at 11:10 a.m., and the finish is scheduled for around 5:12 p.m. The race distance will be 257.2 kilometers.
