Arthur Vichot shining under the sun in Nice, final victory for Carlos BetancurThe last stage of Paris-Nice 2014, the 72th edition of the Race to the sun, was a short stage starting and finishing in Nice, but it wasn't an easy stage however since it contained no less than 5 difficulties in 128 kilometers.

A big breakaway group with 17 riders animated the race but in the end, the stage ended in a sprint anyway, sprint among 22 riders of the first peloton which was won by the French Champion, Arthur Vichot (FDJ.fr).

Yet another stage victory for Tom-Jelte Slagter in Paris-Nice 2014

Yet another stage victory for Tom-Jelte Slagter in Paris-Nice 2014Today's stage of Paris-Nice 2014, the 7th of this Race to the sun, took place between Mougins and Biot Sophia Antipolis, with the stage start and finish location being seperated by only 9 kilometers. A race route on different circuits however allowed to create a stage of 195.5 kilometers during which we saw a race unfold really progressively with lots of variation in front of the race before it came back together in the final laps on the circuit around the finish.

Tom-Jelte Slagter (Garmin-Sharp) finally won the stage and thus took his second victory in this Paris-Nice 2014. While his first victory was already considered as the biggest performance of his career, this one made him even happier after his mechanical accident yesterday!

Carlos Betancur goes double for the 6th stage of Paris-Nice 2014

Carlos Betancur goes double for the 6th stage of Paris-Nice 2014The 6th stage of Paris-Nice 2014, between Saint-Saturnin-lès-Avignon and Fayence, the longest stage of this 72th edition of the Race to the sun saw quite some variation in the breakaways.

A 10 rider strong breakaway animated the stage before it all got messed up in the first climb towards the finish line in Fayence. Sylvain Chavanel ended up leading the race (like he did early in the stage) but the rider with the polka dot jersey didn't manage to stay ahead until the finish line. From the group of favourites, Carlos Betancur finally attacked at the right time and won this 6th stage, second victory in row for him in this Paris-Nice.

Carlos Betancur wins the stage in Rive-de-Gier and takes an option on the yellow jersey in Paris-Nice 2014

Carlos Betancur wins the stage in Rive-de-Gier and takes an option on the yellow jersey in Paris-Nice 2014In the 153 kilometer long stage between Crêches-sur-Saône and Rive-de-Gier today, the riders had to climb 4 difficulties. A 5 rider strong breakaway was formed after an attack by Sylvain Chavanel and when this breakaway, including the one who initiated it and ended it off, was taken back at a few kilometers from the finish, several attacks succeeded. The one by Carlos Betancur finally turned out to be the right one because the Colombian rider who initiated this attack managed to beat the two other riders who jumped with him on the finish line. A nice result for the rider of the AG2R La Mondiale team who also climbs up to the 4th position in the general classification at 5 seconds of the leader Geraint Thomas.

Tom-Jelte Slagter takes his first victory for Garmin-Sharp in Belleville!

Tom-Jelte Slagter takes his first victory for Garmin-Sharp in Belleville! The profile of the 4th stage of Paris-Nice 2014 showed a bit more variation than the previous days and in the last climbs of the day, the breakaway with Perrig Quémeneur, Jesus Herrada Lopez, Valerio Agnoli and Laurent Didier came to an end.
All together at the foot of the Côte du Mont Brouilly, the riders tried to get a good position to start this quite steep climb at 14.5 kilometers from the finish.
Tom-Jelte Slagter (Garmin-Sharp) was the first to attack and the Dutch rider was joined by Geraint Thomas, the leader of Team Sky, a bit later on. The two riders managed to stay ahead of the chasing peloton and they ended the stage with a 5 seconds gap. Tom-Jelte Slagter took the stage victory while Geraint Thomas took over the yellow jersey from John Degenkolb.

The 3rd one is the right one for John Degenkolb in Paris-Nice 2014 !The days go on and they look alike in Paris-Nice 2014! Yet another sunny day and a small leading group which goes off early in the stage (Julien Fouchard [Cofidis], Perrig Quémeneur [Europcar] and Romain Feillu [Bretagne-Séché]) before being taken back before the end.

Perrig Quémeneur manages to arrive on the Circuit de Nevers Magny Cours alone, still leading the race, but wasn't able to resist to the chasing peloton behind him and the stage thus finally ended in a sprint again. Two times second, in the previous stages of this Paris-Nice, but this time it was the right one for John Degenkolb (Team Argos-Shimano), who not only takes the stage win but also the yellow, green and white jerseys. Christophe Laborie keeps his polka dot jersey as the King of the Mountains leader.

In this sprint, Moreno Hofland (Belkin) managed to stay ahead of John Degenkolb (Giant-Shimano), and Degenkolb was followed by Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ.fr) who keeps the yellow jersey.
