A press release from Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.), the organisor of the Tour de France, announced tonight that the city of Copenhagen in Denmark became a candidate to receive the Grand Départ of the Tour, with a 3 days long programme.
Nothing's sure about whether this will become reality, but A.S.O. never before sent a press release about a candidate without making it happen in the end!
The city of Copenhagen thus officially became a candidate, to organise the Grand Départ of the Tour de France somewhere between 2019 and 2021, in collaboration with its surrounding islands.
Nothing's less sure for now! However, several Belgian newspapers today indicated that Brussels will be a candidate for the organisation of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2019 ... in order to celebrate the first of 5 victories in the Tour de France for the guy from Brussels, Eddy Merckx.

Between Roubaix and the track la Cipale in Vincennes, via Belgium and The Netherlands, the 56th Tour de France saw Eddy Merckx in the yellow jersey right from the team time trial which took place the afternoon of the day after the start, in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre in Belgium (just outside of Brussels), won by his team Faema.
