For the 3rd time since the start of the Giro d'Italia 2013, its organisor, RCS Sport, has been obliged to modify the race route of one of its stages.

The new race route of the 19th stage of the Tour of Italy 2013 (Ponte di Legno > Val Martello) on Google Maps, the profile and the time- and route schedule

After the 14th stage saw the climb of Sestrière being cut off and the 15th stage which had been reduced of 4.25 kilometers and which couldn't go up till the top of the Galibier, this is the third time the organisor of the Tour of Italy has a hard time weather and race route wise spoken.

Indeed, due to the weather conditions getting worse again, and in order to make sure the race will not end up in a snow storm, the Stelvio and Gavia will not be on the programme of the Giro tomorrow. The cimma coppi, the rooftop of the Giro d'Italia will thus not be reached since right from the kilometer 0 of the stage in Ponte di Legno, the riders will turn east instead of going up north. By doing so, they'll rapidly start the climb of the first difficulty of this new race route, the Passo del Tonale, of the 2nd category. This difficulty is 8.3 kilometers long with an average steepness of 7.5% and going up to a maximum of 10%.

In the descente of this climb they'll battle for the first intermediate sprint, in Malè, and then go on with the climb of the Passo Castrin / Hofmahdjoch (1st category), never climbed before in the Giro d'Italia. This second difficulty is half-way in the stage, now 160 kilometers long, and is 8.4 kilometers long with an average steepness of 9.5% and going up to a maximum of no less than 13%.

After a new intermediate sprint in Naturno, the riders will turn left in Coldrano to get back on the initial race route, with the climb towards Val Martello (1st category).

Hereunder you'll find the new race route, drawn in red on the map, knowing that the initial race route is also shown on the map, drawn in blue.

  8. Aurelien M > (cf.Svam) C'était une boutade.

La photo du tweet est juste incroyable. On est "seulement" au Passo del Tonale.
